The Protect and Survive Photoset (and some housekeeping)
Hello, we're back! The new site is thisisharmonwest.ghost.io. Please update your bookmarks, and please enjoy these creepy apocalyptic photos too.
Hello. Did you miss me? I missed you.
Yes, it has been several months since I've been able to update the site. Eagle-eyed readers may have noticed it disappeared from the internet entirely! The reason for this is simple: I was too broke to pay for hosting. Someone brought this site back for my birthday as a gift, and I am grateful to her for that. We've got another paid year to work with, so let's see what we can do.
A couple of housekeeping notes, before we proceed:
- The address for this site has changed, and so has the name of the author. Harm Cox is not dead, but they need some time off. My name is Harmon West. I use he/him pronouns, and I want to write under my real name from here on in. And yes, I got the name from where you think I did.
- I'm not editing my old name out of the archives, because that is pointless and also I do not want to. I'm as proud of that work now as I've ever been, and proud of the name I established myself under too. I just want to write under my real name now. I hope we can all be cool about this!
- Because I am a man, I am not going to censor my chest for photos anymore. I think censoring chests and breasts in general is pretty silly, but it's especially silly when I am doing it out of deference to a phobia of transmasculine bodies. It also pokes my dysphoria, so no more of that. If that changes the equation for you as a subscriber, I understand. I never really wanted to censor the photos in the first place, and at this point I just can't be bothered. If seeing a guy's hairy chest freaks you out, this is not the website for you.
- I tried to stick to a weekly update schedule and made it about a year before I burned out in a spectacular fashion. It turns out that spending every free moment of my time immersed in historical and current trans genocide wasn't awesome for my brain, which is one of the reasons we're going to put Harm Cox in rice for a bit. My goal is to get some kind of work up here a couple of times a month. There will still be a lot of writing, and I am still very interested in trans cinema and apocalyptica. But I hope you'll allow me some room to explore some new things too.
OK, are we good? Good. Now let's get to the fun stuff. I've been working on a video project about the apocalypse! One of the primary texts I am using for visuals is Protect and Survive, the UK's government-sponsored survivalist manual meant to help Britain navigate a post-nuclear landscape. Please find below some test photos from the drafting process. I've greatly improved my photo set up, and I think it shows. More to come, but for now, please enjoy these artsy photos of my can.
